OnStar is now offering consumers in three trial markets real-time traffic and road condition reports through the hands-free, voice-activated OnStar Virtual Advisor service, developed in conjunction with General Magic Inc. (GMGC). The traffic reports, which check for incidents within a 15-mile radius of the vehicle's location, are available in the Detroit, Phoenix and San Francisco metro areas. The traffic service will roll out to other metro areas over the next few months. The traffic information comes from Tele Atlas North America Inc., and Metro Networks, a Westwood One company, whose Traffic Data Feed provides traffic information for most of the major U.S. metropolitan areas, covering 92 percent of the nation's urban population. The infor-mation includes reports on accidents, road congestion, travel delays, construction, weather-related road conditions and major events, such as sports, concerts, and festivals -- anything that may affect the flow of traffic.
