Ohio Gov. Taft Signs Flex-Fuel Bill

BLACKLICK, Ohio --- Ohio Gov. Bob Taft this month signed a bill aimed at increasing the state's use of corn-based ethanol. The bill requires the state to purchase only flex-fuel vehicles that can operate on either gasoline or E85 beginning next year, according to an Associated Press report. However, heavy equipment, State Highway Patrol cruisers and other law enforcement vehicles are exempt from the requirement. The bill was sponsored by Republican Rep. Steve Reinhard of Bucyrus. The new law also requires the state to increase its fleet's use of E85 from 30,000 gallons to 60,000 gallons by Jan. 1, provided the fuel is available at a reasonable price.
