NYC Begins 14th Street Vehicle Ban

In an effort to reduce traffic congestion, New York City began its ban on vehicles on eight blocks of 14th Street, the New York Post reports.
From 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., passenger vehicles are now prohibited from accessing 14th Street between Third and Ninth avenues. The ban is especially designed to lessen the impact of large tucks and delivery vans.
The goal is to help city buses stay on their route times, as buses on that stretch currently travel below 4 mph, according to MTA data. Officials hope that the ban on vehicles will speed the buses up by 20% to 30%.
