Jamie McKay, fleet manager for Aptive Pest Control, has been named the 2026 Fleet Visionary Award winner.

Sponsored by Merchants Fleet, the Fleet Visionary Award recognizes professionals with 10 or fewer years of fleet experience who have brought new ideas and approaches to their organizations and the fleet industry.

McKay joined Aptive in July 2020 as the pest control company's first in-house fleet manager after spending years prior in the rental car industry.

Since joining Aptive, McKay has helped develop and centralize the company's fleet while managing continued growth. She oversees approximately 2,100 vehicles, with another 300 units expected to enter service in 2026.

When McKay stepped into the role, Aptive's vehicles were managed across multiple fleet management companies and billing systems. She consolidated the operation under a single fleet management company, bringing leasing and maintenance together and creating a more centralized source of fleet data.

That data has helped inform lifecycle and replacement decisions. At the end of 2025, McKay completed a large vehicle retirement initiative after several years of developing the processes and data needed to evaluate the fleet's lifecycle.

"Fleet is one of those industries where there’s always a new challenge to solve, and I’ve been fortunate to work with some incredible people who are willing to challenge the way we’ve always done things and find better ways forward," McKay said.

McKay has also focused on incorporating driver feedback into vehicle specifications. Changes have included adding key fobs after learning technicians were manually locking and unlocking vehicles at each stop, introducing sun-line tinting in warmer regions, and adding electronic toppers with electric locks.

Her approach to fleet sustainability extends beyond vehicle powertrains. McKay has focused on building an operation that balances financial responsibility, the fleet's needs, and long-term business growth.

"I also want to thank Automotive Fleet and AFLA for this recognition and for continuing to bring this community together. One of the things I appreciate most about this industry is how willing everyone is to share ideas, experiences, and even the lessons from things that didn’t go exactly as planned," continued McKay.

"I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished, but I’m even more excited about where we’re going next."
