FARMINGTON HILLS, MI — The National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) recently launched two new products developed to help commercial truck and transportation equipment industry professionals with the development of market plans. Through data reported in Work and Vocational Truck Data Source: Truck Registrations by State, Class, and Body Type, manufacturers and distributors are prepared to estimate potential aftermarket sales. Trailer manufacturers and dealers are able to establish the relative importance of each trailer body type in various geographic locations as well as determine truck tractor replacement rates through data reported in Work and Vocational Truck Tractor Data Source: Truck Tractor Registrations by State, Model Year, and Trailer Body Type Most Often Pulled. Both publications feature data taken from the Vehicle Inventory and Use Survey (VIUS) conducted by the Bureau of the Census for 2002. VIUS results — which incorporate data from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, as well as from the Federal Highway Administration and R.L. Polk & Co. — show the number of privately owned trucks and truck tractors registered in the U.S. on an “every five-year” basis. In addition to providing the national count of trucks and truck tractors reg-istered, the VIUS includes information regarding body type, gross vehicle weight (GVW), miles traveled, type of equipment installed, loads carried, and many other measures.
