EVgo DC Fast Charging Network

Nissan and BMW have joined forces with EVgo in an effort to expand the network of DC Fast charging stations available to drivers of the LEAF and i3 models and to promote an increased adoption of electric vehicles nationwide.

As a result of the partnership, 174 new DC Charging stations will be installed across 33 states. And, an additional 50 are planned in 2017. With the addition of the new locations, the public, DC charging network's dual-port DC Fast charging stations now total 668 and cover about 90% of BMW i3 and LEAF owners, the companies stated.

"EVgo is delighted to expand our partnership with BMW and Nissan, and to be able to bring more loyal i3 and LEAF owners around the country access to our convenient, premium DC Fast charging services. We are constantly looking at strategic ways to expand our network and promote EV adoption to help make every day EV use a reality for our OEM partners and their vehicle owners," said Rob Barrosa, vice president, OEM Strategy and Business Development at EVgo.

The majority of these new DC Fast chargers are already installed and active, according to EVgo. Each new location offers a dual 50kW DC Fast charging station with both CHAdeMO and SAE Combo connectors that will serve all electric vehicles equipped with quick-charge ports, regardless of brand, the companies stated. Through these stations, EVs from Nissan and BMW are able to reach up to 80% charge in approximately 25-30 minutes.

Nissan LEAF owners can find these chargers using the Nissan LEAF EZ-Charger smartphone app. Meanwhile, BMW i3 drivers can use their in-vehicle navigation or BMW ConnectedApp to locate a station. This expansion, according to the companies, builds on the 120 dual-port DC Fast chargers that Nissan and BMW announced together in December 2015.
