NICB Names 5 Most-Stolen SUVs and CUVs for MY-2009-2011
The National Insurance Crime Bureau's (NICB's) report covers a four-year period, from Jan. 1, 2008 through June 30, 2012. NICB stated it further filtered the results to provide details on thefts for the 2009, 2010, and 2011 model-year vehicles only.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) released a new report that details the top five most-stolen makes and models of SUVs and CUVs in the U.S.
The organization’s report covers a four-year period, from Jan. 1, 2008 through June 30, 2012. NICB stated it further filtered the results to provide details on thefts for the 2009, 2010, and 2011 model-year vehicles only. During this period, vehicle owners reported a total of 19,961 SUVs/CUVs as stolen.
On a per-state basis, California had the largest number of SUV and CUV thefts, at 3,003. Texas came in second, at 1,826, and Florida came in third, at 1,784. On a regional basis, New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island, NY-NJ-PA had the highest number of thefts, at 2,438. The Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana, Calif. area came in second at a total of 1,229 thefts and the Detroit-Warren-Livonia, Mich. Area came in third, at 1,215.

Ford Escape – 1,014
Chevrolet Tahoe – 856
Toyota RAV4 - 801
Ford Edge - 739
Dodge Journey - 721
