WASHINGTON– The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has decided to retain its requirement that Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) warning lights initiate a 60- to 90-second flashing sequence when an air pressure problem is found.
The decision was made in response to a request by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers. The group believed NHTSA had insufficiently addressed the issue in its final TPMS ruling, which was made in 2005.
