New York Tightens Government Fleet's Fuel Efficiency Requirements
ALBANY, NY --- As part of New York Gov. David Paterson's environmental initiative, the state has introduced new rules limiting the state government's purchase of new passenger cars to vehicles that get mileage in the top 30 percent of their class.
ALBANY, NY --- As part of New York Gov. David Paterson's environmental initiative, the state has introduced new rules limiting the state government's purchase of new passenger cars to vehicles that get mileage in the top 30 percent of their class, the Times Union newspaper reported.
The Environmental Protection Agency determines the mileage ratings for individual car models.
New York's Department of Environmental Conservation and the Office of General Services helped author the new rules.
In April 2008, Paterson ordered the development of a state Green Procurement and Agency Sustainability Program. The order calls for state agencies, public authorities and public benefit corporations to make green purchases and to implement sustainability initiatives.
