Minn. Bill Seeks to Fund Ethanol, Plug-In Hybrid Research
ST. PAUL, Minn. ---- Proposed state legislation seeks to provide Minnesota State University $100,000 to study ethanol-based fuel use in hybrid vehicles and to explore ways to boost the cars' reliance on battery power for short trips, according to the Mankato Free Press.

Minnesota state representatives Frank Hornstein and Laura Brod sponsored the legislation. If the bill passes, faculty and students working on the project would develop a couple vehicles to demonstrate and test the technologies. The university’s automotive engineering technology program isn't new to alt-fuel research. Several years ago, the program converted a Toyota Prius to run on E-85.
