Mercedes-Benz Provides 2018-MY Update

Mercedes-Benz has revealed additional details about its 2018 model-year lineup that will include several new E-Class models, a redesigned GLA-Class compact SUV, and additional connected-car technology for a heavily revised S-Class.

Mercedes-Benz has revealed additional details about its 2018 model-year lineup that will include several new E-Class models, a redesigned GLA-Class compact SUV, and additional connected-car technology for a heavily revised S-Class.

The E-Class luxury sedan, which was redesigned in 2017, will add the V-6-powered E400 that's also available in all-wheel drive, and the AMG E63 S wagon. They join the exisiting E300 model.

The E400 offers a 3.0-liter bi-turbo V-6 engine that makes 329 horsepower, while the AMG E63 S wagon is powered by AMG's 4.0-liter bi-turbo V-8 that makes 603 hp and 627 lb.-ft. of torque paired with a nine-speed transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive system.

Mercedes-Benz has released preliminary details about the engine lineup in the 2018 S-Class, and has now provided more details about its driver assistive technology. The sedan will be offered in S450 and S550 variants with available 4Matic.

The S-Class will offer wireless smartphone charging, massaging seats, a "wellness setup" feature, as well ad driver assistance features such as steering wheel assist, lane change assist, forward emergency braking, and traffic sign assist that displays posted speed limits on the road map of the navigation system.

The 2018 S-Class models will arrive at dealer lots in the fall, said Catherine Gebhardt, a Mercedes-Benz USA spokesperson.

Mercedes-Benz is also updating its GLA-Class for 2018 with new safety technology and enhanced driving capability. The available off-road comfort suspension increases ground clearance by an additional 1.2 inches to raise seating position.

The 2018 GLA includes active brake assist as standard and previously optional bi-xenon headlamps have been replaced by more efficient LED headlights.
