ACTON, Mass. --- Behind the headquarters of Bursaw Gas & Oil Inc. is a retail fuel pump that offers consumers biodiesel made from refined soybean oil. The Chelsea-based World Energy Alternatives LLC supplies the biodiesel fuel to Bursaw and many other outlets, most of which are in the Western United States. The biodiesel pump was installed this month, according to a report in the Boston Globe. Jeff Bursaw, owner of Bursaw Gas & Oil, told the Globe that his station along Route 2A is selling between 1,200 and 1,500 gallons of biodiesel fuel a week to nearly 50 customers. Some of those customers are members of the Massachusetts Energy Consumers Alliance, which assists lower-income consumers and promotes greater use of renewable energy. Graham Noyes, vice president of business development for World Energy Alternatives, told the Globe that last year, 75 million gallons of biodiesel were sold industry-wide, compared to fewer than 500,000 gallons in 1999.
