LOS ANGELES --- The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority's board of directors has agreed to spend $86.4 million to purchase 100 compressed natural gas buses. Funding has yet to be determined. However, the MTA's Finance and Budget Committee is expected to address this issue at its June meeting. The 60-foot buses will have seats for 57 passengers, according to a report from CBS Channel 2 News. That's nearly double the capacity of a conventional 40-foot bus. Delivery for the buses is expected by the spring of 2008. The transit agency's bus fleet now numbers 2,500 buses. About 90 percent of those are fueled by natural gas.
