The 2016 Kia Optima mid-size sedan LX base model will retail for $21,840 plus handling charges for Kia's top-seller in the U.S. as it enters its fourth generation.

Kia will offer the Optima in five trim levels, including LX 1.6T, EX, SX, and SXL. The base LX offers a carryover 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. The LX 1.6T arrives with a new four-cylinder that's paired with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission starting at $23,990. The vehicle is expected to arrive at dealer lots in the fourth quarter.

Other updates for 2016 include sleeker styling and greater smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A rear-view camera comes standard.

Optional equipment packages include the LX Convenience Package for $1,850 that includes Blind Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Parking Assist System. The LX Turbo Technology Package for $2,600 includes navigation, Sirius XM Traffic and rear LED taillights, as well as USB chargers for both front and rear seat passengers.

The Optima EX retails for at least $29,690, while the SXL retails for at least $35,790. Kia is offering several options for these models.
