Jersey City Mayor Hopes to Green City Fleet
JERSEY CITY, NJ --- Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy has asked the City Council to consider an ordinance amendment that would require the city to purchase green vehicles, including hybrid electric vehicles or those using alternative fuels, according to GlobeSt.com.
JERSEY CITY, NJ --- Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy has asked the City Council to consider an ordinance amendment that would require the city to purchase green vehicles, including hybrid electric vehicles or those using alternative fuels, according to GlobeSt.com.
However, Healy has proposed that these requirements be waived if the purchase price for the greener vehicle is 30 percent higher than that of the conventional vehicle. In this case, the city would then buy fuel-efficient vehicles rated at 20 miles per gallon or more in the city and 29 mpg or greater on the highway.
The proposed amendment in question has been dubbed the Green Fleet Vehicle Initiative. It is part of a series of ordinances proposed by Healy to improve the city's eco-friendly profile, GlobeSt.com reported.
