Jeep Grand Cherokees Recalled for Transmission Shift Interlock
The recall covers more than 32,000 2016 model-year SUVs in the U.S.

FCA US is recalling an estimated 32,267 2016 model-year Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs in the U.S. because the shifter in these vehicles might become locked in “park” or “neutral.”
The problem is tied to a certain wire-harness terminal that might lose its electrical connection, the automaker said. If this condition occurs, the shifter can become locked in “park” or “neutral” once the vehicle is brought to a stop.
“An investigation by FCA US traced the cause to supplied wiring harnesses, some of which may have been incorrectly crimped,” FCA US said in a released statement. The company added that it isn’t aware of any potentially related injuries or accidents, and this campaign isn’t linked to any previous recall.
In addition to the recalled SUVs in the U.S., an estimated 2,095 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles will be recalled in Canada for the same problem. A total of 538 will be recalled in Mexico, and another 2,472 will be recalled outside the NAFTA region.
“Affected customers will be notified when they may schedule service,” FCA US said. In the interim, customers are advised to apply the parking brake when they exit the vehicle.
