The 2017 Jaguar XF luxury sedan will offer a 2.0L turbocharged inline-four diesel with its pair of V-6 models, Jaguar Land Rover has announced.
The XF 20d's Ingenium diesel will make 180 hp and 318 lb.-ft. of torque.
The engine uses a cooled low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system paired with a diesel particulate filter that reduces combustion chamber temperatures and nitrogen (NOx) in the exhaust stream. Jaguar has also incorporated a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system that injects diesel exhause fluid into the exhaust that convers NOx into harmless nitrogen gas.
Additionally, the engine uses variable valvue timing enabled by a cam phaser on the exhaust side to achieve more rapid catalyst heating, which minimized emissions while the engine warms up.
The engine's split-cooling system, mapped thermostat, and variable mechanical water pump work together to help the engine warm more quickly to reduce friction and fuel consumption. An electronically-controlled oil pump matches its flow rate according to engine speed, load and temperature, according to Jaguar.
The models will retail for $47,450 for the XF 20d, $50,490 for the XF 35t with the 3.0L 340-hp V-6, and $62,700 for the XF S with the 380-hp V-6.
