Indiana to Study Ethanol, Biodiesel Use
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The Indiana House of Representatives this week unanimously passed a bill calling for the Environmental Quality Service Council to identify the best way for the state to comply with new federal renewable fuel standards.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The Indiana House of Representatives this week unanimously passed a bill calling for the Environmental Quality Service Council to identify the best ways for the state to comply with new federal renewable fuel standards. Rep. Jackie Walorski, who co-sponsored the bill, said legislators should be looking for ways to make Indiana a leader in alternative fuels, according to a news story on the Renewable Energy Access Web site. Walorski pointed out that the state has the resources to produce much of the country's demand for ethanol and biofuels. Alternative fuels could be a major boost to the state's economy, Walorski said, because Indiana's agribusiness can increase production of corn and soybeans needed to make the fuels. The bill (HB1285) also calls for the Environmental Quality Service Council to explore whether the state should require that all motor vehicles sold in Indiana meet a flexible fuel vehicle standard.
