MOORESTOWN, N.J. – Howard A. Kirmsse, “Pop Pop,” 85, of Moorestown, passed away Feb. 4, 2007, at home surrounded by his family. A native of Cedarburg, Wis., Kirmsse traveled extensively, though San Francisco was where he “left his heart.” An ex-Hertz Leasing employee, Kirmsse was involved in the automotive business for nearly his entire life. Along with his son, Lans, Kirmsse owned and operated Cherry Hill Rent-a-Wreck on Route 33 in Cherry Hill, N.J. Kirmsse’s first job was as a writer for a radio station sponsored by Earl C. Anthony and Packard Motor Car. He also drove an ambulance for the Allied Forces during World War II and was blinded by a German bomb in North Africa. Several years after his war homecoming, his sight inexplicably returned. Kirmsse enjoyed writing short stories and was an eloquent speaker. He is survived by his former wife Donia Kirmsse of Pasadena, Calif.; and his children Devereaux Nanassy of Moorestown; Leigh Kirmsse and partner Melissa of Concord, Calif.; Robbyn Kirmsse and fiancé Jamie Fiffles (and son Adam) of Glendale, Calif.; Lansing Kirmsse and wife Christine of Moorestown and Jennifer Gaetjaens and husband Horst (and son Alexander) of Cherry Hill; grandchildren Autumn, William, Alexis, Joshua, Christine, Kathryn, and Luke. Kirmsse is also survived by his longtime friend and sister-in-law Wiggsy Sivertsen and partner Jeannie of Los Gatos, Calif.
