Hyundai Motor has added another SUV to its car-heavy lineup with the Kona, a subcompact crossover that's set to go on sale in the U.S. in early 2018, the automaker said today at a launch event in South Korea.
The Kona would join Hyundai SUV trio of the Santa Fe Sport, Santa Fe, and Tucson. It foes on sale in South Korea in late June.
Hyundai says it will offer gasoline and diesel models. The gasoline Kona would be powered by a 2.0-liter Atkinson engine that makes about 146 hp that's paired with a six-speed transmission. The Gamma 1.6T-GDI diesel makes about 175 hp. European customers can opt for the smaller 1.0 T-GDI three-cylinder turbo diesel that makes about 118 hp.
The Kona will offer safety and driver assistive features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist autonomous braking, Lane Keeping Assist, High Beam Assist, and Driver Attention Warning.
