Houston to Purchase First Nissan Leafs for Fleet

HOUSTON - Houston is expecting delivery of two Nissan Leafs in April for its City fleet.

HOUSTON - The City of Houston is working to purchase two Nissan Leaf electric vehicles for its City fleet. The vehicles are expected to arrive in early April.

The City fleet also "plans to acquire at least 23 additional electric cars in the near-term," according to Laura Spanjian, sustainability director, Mayor's Office.

In addition, Houston is also supporting the installation of 30 municipal and 35 public charging stations, Spanjian said. These are expected to be completed this summer. The charging stations will be complemented by 100 public Level 2 charging stations and 50 fast-charging stations installed by NRG EV Services, expected to be completed in 2011, Spanjian said.

The Nissan Leaf arrived in the Houston area in January. Nissan began making the electric vehicle available to customers in select states in December 2010.
