HOUSTON – The Methodist Hospital System, named one of FORTUNE’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” in 2006, has distributed almost 10,000 gas gift cards to its employees to provide immediate relief from escalating fuel costs. Each employee received a $250 fuel gift card. In Texas, the average price of gas is about $2.83 a gallon, up 75 cents as compared to this time last year, according to AAA Texas. Those prices are expected to increase again this summer. Methodist also offers free yearly bus and light rail passes and subsidizes van pools to provide transportation alternatives for employees. For those employees who take the bus to work, they are encouraged to use their gift cards for any personal driving or groceries.
