ATLANTA – Habitat for Humanity has launched a new fleet of 24 mobile response vehicles, Chevrolet Express vans, including 19 C-20 Panel Vans, that will be upfitted with tools and equipment. General Motors donated the vehicles, and Lowe’s and Robert Bosch Tool Corp. donated the equipment.
After the storm, Habitat for Humanity launched a new program to help affected communities, and the new vehicles are part of this effort. General Motors created a video highlighting some of these efforts, which you can view here.
The organization plans to send the vehicles to areas in the northeastern U.S. recovering from Hurricane Sandy. Upon arrival, the Habitat for Humanity fleet is slated to go into service in Staten Island, N.Y., and Union Beach, N.J. From there, the vehicles will be transferred to a dozen Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the greater New York metropolitan area to help with clean-up and repair efforts.
