SALT LAKE CITY --- Grant money from the Environmental Protection Agency and state of Utah has helped the Jordan School District buy 33 school buses that run on compressed natural gas. "We feel good about running the CNG buses," District Transportation Director James Hinckle told the Salt Lake Tribune. "They're better for the students and the environment, and they make a lot less noise." The latest grant, along with those from the past, was offered in conjunction with the Utah Clean Cities Coalition as part of the Wasatch Front Clean School Bus Initiative. The grants make up the difference between the cost of a bus that runs with a diesel engine and the cost of one with an engine that runs on compressed natural gas. The most recent grant resulted in the district adding another five CNG buses to its fleet.
