Fleets acquiring a 2014-2016 model year GMC Sierra can add a new camera system for trailering and a factory-installed, fifth-wheel prep package that's compatible with gooseneck or fifth-wheel hitches, General Motors has announced.
In March, GM offered these options on Chevrolet Silverado trucks. Like the Silverado options, the camera system is available with the 1500, 2500HD, 3500HD single rear wheel, and 3500HD dual rear wheel. The tow package is limited to the 2500HD and 3500HD trucks.
The camera system, developed with Echomaster, includes three cameras to help reduce blind spots on the highway and when reversing with a trailer. The cameras are integrated into the side-mirror housings on each side of the truck and to the rear of the trailer.
The system is now available from GMC dealers for at least $999. It carries a warranty from Echomaster (a division of AAMP Global).
The available fifth-wheel package for 2016-MY Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD trucks retails for $350. It features a frame-mounted hitch platform and tray that's concealed under the truck bed. A factory-installed seven-way trailer wiring connection in the pickup box is also available.
The hitch platform that includes a 2-5/16-inch ball hitch and two chain tie-downs retails for $315.
GMC also offers a CURT Manufacturing hitch that is compatible with the factory-installed hitch platform. The fifth-wheel packages from CURT Manufacturing are currently available for purchase through dealers at $939 for the 20,000-pound hitch and $999 for the 25,000-pound hitch.
