General Motors’ next Chevrolet Malibu will be built in two distinct versions, according to The Car Connection (TCC). The mid-sized sedan is due for a complete revamp next year and TCC cites Gene Stefanyshyn, GM’s mid-size passenger car vehicle line executive, as saying that the new one will be aimed at traditional “three-box sedan” buyers but the Fairfax, KS, plant also will be equipped to build an “extended version.” TCC said the stretched version will have an extra 6 inches in its wheelbase and will be aimed at more affluent buyers, but Stefanyshyn wouldn’t comment on rumors it would be a station wagon. “It’s not a crossover,” and GM also isn’t calling it a station wagon, Stefanyshyn told TCC. He added that GM will concentrate all W-car (Century, Regal, Grand Prix, Impala, and Monte Carlo) assembly at Oshawa, Ontario, TCC said.
