LOS ANGELES --- General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz was in Los Angeles recently to promote the company's 2008 vehicle lineup, but his enthusiasm seemed to run highest while talking about the battery-powered Volt --- a car expected to debut in late 2010. The Los Angeles Times reported that Lutz predicted the Volt's future success will establish GM as the clear industry leader in technology. The Volt will incorporate GM's E-Flex electric drive system. The plug-in hybrid will feature a 40-mile all-electric range. Its price is expected to be under $30,000. However, to meet that 2010 deadline, there must be advances in lithium ion battery technology.
