General Motors is investing $63 million to expand the Lansing Delta Township facility that produces the Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Buick Enclave mid-size SUVs.
The expansion will add nearly 263,000 square feet to the facility, including 28,000 square feet to general assembly and 181,000 square feet to the body shop. A 54,000-square-foot addition to the paint shop will allow use of improved sealers and coatings to increase corrosion resistance.
GM is investing $300 million overall to its Michigan-based operations, CEO Mary Barra announced Oct. 28 during a speech at the Detroit Economic Club.
Commercial fleets registered 3,702 Traverse SUVs, 1,390 Acadia SUVs, and 804 Buick Enclave SUVs in 2013. The 2014-MY Enclave earned the fastest order-to-delivery time in Automotive Fleet's annual survey.
