GE Capital Fleet Services said in a recent survey report that 44 percent of truck fleet managers said maximizing productivity was their primary concern. Next, 24 percent of fleet managers surveyed said they were concerned with meeting cost savings goals, and 20 percent said understanding the impact of new vehicle technologies, such as technology for alternative-fuel vehicles, was a major concern.

In addition to naming their top concerns, the survey asked fleet managers to name the single most important area of focus for maximizing fleet productivity. A total of 29 percent of respondents said specifying the right truck for the job was most important. Next, 22 percent said specifying the right truck was the most important service their fleet management company could provide.

Fleets also cited tracking downtime and reducing total cost of ownership; with 18 percent of respondents each saying this was the primary area that could improve productivity.
