WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Four U.S. senators have asked the Energy Department to temporarily suspend oil shipments to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The four senators --- Susan Collins (R-Maine), Carl Levin (D-Mich.), Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) --- sent a letter to Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman, arguing that continued deliveries to the emergency reserve would worsen supply problems and lead to even higher crude and petroleum prices, the Los Angeles Times reported. "The department should not be taking oil off the market and adding to pressures on supplies when consumers are struggling to heat their homes and fill their gas tanks," Collins said.
