Ford to Build 250,000 Hybrids by 2010
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Ford Motor Co. has announced plans to build 250,000 hybrids a year by 2010, or nearly 10 times its current production, reports Dow Jones News.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Ford Motor Co. has announced plans to build 250,000 hybrids a year by 2010, or nearly 10 times its current production, reports Dow Jones News. Last week, CEO Bill Ford told a gathering of Ford’s scientists and engineers, “From this point forward, innovation will be the compass by which the company sets its direction.” Ford currently builds 24,000 hybrid vehicles annually, all Ford Escape Hybrids, the first SUV to come to market using the technology. The Mercury Mariner Hybrid began taking online orders in July for release later this year, and Ford said it will have five hybrids on the road by 2008 with ver-sions of the Ford Fusion, the Mercury Milan, and the Mazda Tribute. By 2010, the company said it aims to have half its Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury lineup with hybrid capability, according to the Dow Jones News.
