Ford will incorporate high-strength aluminum alloys into the body of its next-generation Super Duty truck lineup, Ford's new CEO announced Sept. 29 while presenting the company's global growth goals.
The move follows Ford's decision to incorporate a significant amount of aluminum into its redesigned 2015 F-150 half-ton pickup. Until now, Ford had remained silent about whether it would apply the strategy to its Super Duty lineup of heavy-duty pickups and medium-duty trucks.
Ford decided to use aluminum in its Super Duty lineup to "maintain its truck leadership, improve capability and durability across its entire lineup, and deliver better gas mileage," according to a release. CEO Mark Fields spoke at Ford's investor day on Sept. 29, and presented Ford's 2020 Vision, a blueprint of the company's strategy for the next several years.
Ford is redesigning its Super Duty F-650 and F-750 trucks for the 2016 model year.
