Ford Plans 9% Production Boost in Fourth Quarter

DEARBORN, MI – In Ford’s August sales update the company said it plans to produce 9 percent more vehicles for the North American market in the fourth quarter of 2011, at 645,000, up from third-quarter production of 630,000.
The automaker said the Fiesta and Fusion posted higher sales than last year, and that Focus sales are constrained by tight inventory. Transit Connect sales reached 2,734 for the month, a record for August, Ford stated. Sales are up 35 percent versus a year ago.
F-Series trucks were strong in August, and V-6 engines in the F-150 continue to outsell models with V-8 engines. Ford said the 3.5L EcoBoost engine accounted for 41 percent of F-150 retail sales, and the 3.7L V-6 accounted for 16 percent.
For the company’s Lincoln brand, Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service, said the company plans to launch seven new or significantly refreshed models in the next three years.
