EPA: Honda, Toyota Lead in Fuel Economy in '07 Models

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Environmental Protection Agency's new annual report has confirmed that Honda and Toyota offered U.S. motorists the highest average fuel efficiency in 2007 models. Honda led the pack with an average fuel economy for '07 models of 22.9 miles per gallon. Toyota came in second, posting a 22.8 mpg average for 2007 models. Hyundai Motor Co. improved to 22.7 mpg, while Volkswagen AG averaged 21.4 mpg. Nissan Motor Co. improved 0.6 mpg to reach 20.6 mpg. General Motors led domestic automakers with an average of 19.4 mpg for 2007 models. Ford Motor Co. had an average of 18.7 mpg. Ford's Escape hybrid boasted the highest fuel efficiency of any light truck with 29.7 mpg. DaimlerChrysler AG's average for '07 models was 18.3 mpg.
