NORTHBROOK, ILL – Donlen, a provider of fleet management systems, teamed with TPC Management Company to coordinate 45 auto auctions across the country and raise $150,000 for the “One Step at a Time” program, a summer camp experience for children with cancer and leukemia. The amount was the highest yet in the annual effort to benefit Children’s Oncology Services, topping last year’s mark by more than 47 percent and raising nearly six times the total of the 2004 launch campaign.
“Not only were donations up dramatically over last year, participation by major auction companies nearly doubled as well,” said Gary Rappeport, Donlen chief executive officer. “Regardless of their affiliations, the auctions all rally around this one extraordinary cause and we’re proud to lead this effort.”
Children’s Oncology Services of Illinois, Inc., a not-for-profit charitable organization, conducts the “One Step at a Time” program to benefit children 7-18 diagnosed with leukemia or other forms of cancer. The two-week camps give afflicted children a rare bonding experience and a safe, supportive environment to enjoy some of the everyday joys of childhood. Their website is www.onestepcamp.org. Campers participate in a wide range of recreational activities, and most importantly, build lasting friendships. An experienced, all-volunteer staff provides medical and counseling assistance.
TPC Management Company helped Donlen coordinate the program for the fourth straight year, teaming with many independent auctions as well as ADESA and Manheim affiliated auctions and headquarters operations to raise funds.
Many auctions began their own fundraising efforts early last fall and continued right through March, holding raffles and auctions of sports memorabilia and other donated merchandise in conjunction with Donlen vehicles sales. Some dealers also donated money directly.
