The average price of diesel fuel fell more than a penny per gallon last week, continuing a general pattern of falling prices since early April. Figures released on June 17 by the U.S. Department of Energy show the national retail average of a gallon of diesel price was $1.275, down from $1.286 the previous week. Prices fell in every region of the country except the West Coast, where rising prices in California contributed to an increase from $1.382 to $1.387. This makes the West Coast prices the highest in the country, followed closely by the New England region at $1.386. The lowest prices were found in the Lower Atlantic region at $1.23, followed closely by the Gulf Coast at $1.236. The average price has fallen nearly 5 cents per gallon since hitting $1.323 in early April.
