Commercial Fleet Sales Increase 6.3% in July

Sales of vehicles to commercial fleets increased 6.3%, while sales into daily rental increased 44.9%. Sales to government fleets increased 13%.

Commercial Fleet Sales Increase 6.3% in July

Sales of vehicles to commercial fleets from nine manufacturers increased 6.3% in July.

Sales of vehicles to commercial fleets from eight manufactures increased 6.3% to 52,243 in July as sales of trucks, vans, and SUVs provided the highest volume while sales of passenger cars saw the largest percentage spike.

Truck-based sales increased 1% to 45,037, while car sales increased 57.9% to 7,206 units, according to Automotive Fleet data. For the year so far, sales to commercial fleets have increased 8.2% to 449,619. Truck-based sales have increased 8.9% to 392,575, while car sales have increased 3.7% to 57,044.

Sales to government fleets from four manufacturers increased 13% to 20,845. Truck-based sales increased 17.5% to 17,829 and car sales declined 8.2% to 3,016. For the year, government sales have remained flat with a 0.3% decline to 160,241. Truck sales have increased 0.8% to 132,385 and car sales have fallen 5.2% to 27,856.

Daily rental sales from nine manufacturers increased 44.9% to 88,695 units. Truck-based sales increased 67.3% to 55,894 units, while car sales increased 17.9% to 32,801 units. Year-to-date sales have increased 11% to 1.1 million vehicles with a 8.6% decline in car sales to 427,686 and a 28.5% increase in truck-based sales to 674,821 units.

For all three segments, fleet sales in July increased 25.6% from a year ago to 161,783 units with a 27.5% gain in truck sales to 118,760 and a 20.6% increase in car sales to 43,023. Year to date, the three fleet segments have increased 9.1% to 1.71 million. While truck-based sales have increased 18% to 1.19 million, car sales have fallen 7.2% to 512,586.
