Commercial Fleet Sales Bounce in July
Commercial fleet sales rebounded in July with a 29.8% increase to 66,909 from a year ago. Sales of trucks, vans, and SUVs paced the gain, while sales of cars again saw a heavy decline, according to Automotive Fleet data.

Commercial fleet sales rebounded in July with a 29.8% increase to 66,909 from a year ago. Sales of trucks, vans, and SUVs paced the gain, while sales of cars again saw a heavy decline, according to Automotive Fleet data.
For the month, nine manufacturers sold 38.3% more trucks (61,595) than a year ago and 24.5% fewer cars (5,314).
Year-to-date sales have increased 9% to 484,821. Truck-based sales through July increased 11.7% to 434,963, while sales of cars have declined 10.1% to 49,858 in that period.
Sales to government fleets from five manufacturers declined 3.6% to 20,088 in July. Truck-based sales declined 5% to 16,939 and car sales increased 4.4% to 3,149. For the year, government sales have fallen 2% to 156,991. Truck sales have increased 0.2% to 132,644 and car sales have declined 12.6% to 24,347.
Daily rental sales from nine manufacturers declined 1.9% to 87,686 units. Truck-based sales declined 19% to 49,261 units, while car sales increased 34.6% to 38,425 units. Year-to-date sales have increased 5.5% to 1.16 million vehicles with a 3.3% increase in car sales to 447,378 and a 7% increase in truck-based sales to 721,290 units.
For all three segments, fleet sales in July increased 8% from a year ago to 174,683 units with a 3.7% increase in truck sales to 127,795 and a 21.5% increase in car sales to 46,888. For the year, sales into the three fleet segments have increased 5.7% to 1.81 million. While truck-based sales have increased 7.8% to 1.28 million, car sales have fallen 1% to 521,583.
