Chrysler announced that Fiat Group Automobiles SpA and its Turkish joint-venture partner, TOFAS, have signed a letter of intent to bring the Fiat Doblo to the North American market.
Chrysler stated TOFAS will invest more than $160 million (USD) for the necessary U.S. and Canadian homologation and customer requirement modifications.
The Doblo, voted the “International Van of the Year 2011,” will arrive in early 2013, according to Chrysler. The seven-year supply agreement calls for TOFAS to export a total of 190,000 units of the Doblò vehicle from its Bursa facility, which Chrysler said is Turkey’s largest automobile production plant.
