Chevrolet is entering the burgeoning market for compact SUVs with its 2015 Trax, which the brand unveiled on the eve of the New York International Auto Show.
With the Trax, Chevrolet is expanding its SUV lineup that also includes the Equinox and fleet-only Captiva at the entry level, Traverse in the mid-size, and Suburban and Tahoe as large SUVs. Competition for the Trax will likely include the Nissan Rogue, Subaru Outback, and 2015 Jeep Renegade introduced in March.

Since late 2012, the Trax has been sold in Mexico, Canada, and other global markets. The 2015 Trax will arrive in the U.S. and China for the first time.
The Trax, which will arrive at dealerships in early 2015, will be powered by a 1.4L four-cylinder EcoTec engine expected to generate 138 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of torque. The EcoTec is mated to a Hydra-Matic 6T40 six-speed automatic transmission.
Chevrolet is offering numerous optional features including all-wheel drive, OnStar 4G LTE via a Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, and satellite radio.
The Trax will offer 48.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind a 60/40-split fold-down rear seat. The Trax will come in LS, LT, and LTZ trim levels. Chevrolet will announce pricing closer to the start of production.
