DECATUR, GA - Charles Bowen announced his retirement from the transportation industry effective Sept. 15, 2011. Bowen was named AF’s Professional Fleet Manager of the Year in 1993. His career stretched from 1972 to 2011, and included 20-years in corporate fleet management. However, as with many, Bowen did not start his career in fleet and initially worked in accounting and finance for five years before moving into the automobile business via sales. He was employed in the automobile dealership business for 16 years.
In 1981, Bowen was offered an opportunity to begin a dealership fleet sales department and was fleet manager for four years before being promoted to general sales manager. Bowen joined Georgia-Pacific in 1987 as manager of automotive fleet services, and later joined Rollins Inc. as director of fleet, serving in this position from 1997 to 2008. Bowen left Rollins in November 2008 after the company restructured its organization, and started an independent transportation consulting firm in Atlanta called TransCon Global.
