BOSTON – A hybrid-electric Toyota Camry owned by Boston Cab Association took to the streets Sept. 22, according to CBS Broadcasting. Boston CleanAir Cabs is a new program designed to replace ordinary taxis with cleaner vehicle technology. All clean-air cabs will have a green stripe on the vehicle, indicating the taxi is cleaner for the environment. The city has committed to allow three pre-approved vehicle models to be used as taxis for the program: the hybrid Toyota Camry, hybrid Ford Escape, and CNG Ford Crown Victoria. MassPort is also a partner on the project and may soon offer incentives, such as reduced airport access fees, as a way to get more hybrid taxis on the streets.
