BMW said it began production of its 2014 X5 at its facility in Spartanburg, S.C. on Aug. 1. The new X5 features a number of changes over its predecessor, including a 3.0L TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder engine (hp is 300 and peak torque is 300 lb.-ft.), a TwinPower Turbo 4.4L V-8 (445 hp and 480 lb.-ft. of torque), and a new 3.0L diesel engine (255 hp and 413 lb.-ft. of torque).

Design-wise, BMW said the new model has a stretched silhouette, aerodynamic features such as Air Curtains, Air Breathers, and Aero Blades, and an X-shaped bumper with contour lines in common with the BMW X model family of vehicles.

Other features on the BMW X5 include Active Steering and AdaptiveDrive (a combination of active roll stabilization and electronic damping control). The vehicle also comes with standard run-flat tires, according to BMW.

According to Automotive Fleet magazine's 2013-2014 Fact Book, which uses data from R.L. Polk, there are 943 2012-CY BMW X5 SAVs in commercial fleets in the U.S.
