WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The U.S. average retail price for regular gasoline climbed 2.5 cents last week to $2.892 per gallon as of June 5. That's 77.6 cents higher than last year, reported the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration (EIA). Prices rose last week after falling the previous two weeks. Prices varied throughout the country, with the Midwest seeing the largest price increase of 5.5 cents to reach $2.815 per gallon. West Coast prices remained the highest in the nation, falling 0.4 cent to $3.201 per gallon. California prices gained 0.3 cent to reach $3.269 per gallon. The East Coast saw a price hike of 1.5 cents to reach $2.874 per gallon. Retail diesel fuel prices rose 0.8 cent to reach $2.89 per gallon as of June 5, which is 65.6 cents higher than last year. The Midwest saw the largest increase of 1.3 cents to $2.837 per gallon. West Coast prices remained the highest in the country, falling 0.2 cent to $3.159 per gallon. California prices stayed flat at $3.227 per gallon. East Coast prices gained 0.8 cent to $2.881 per gallon.
