Audi unveiled its e-tron quattro (all-wheel drive) battery-electric concept vehicle at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt.
The production version of the compact SUV, which offers 310 miles of range, will be available in early 2018, according to the automaker.
The vehicle's drive system, which is based on the Audi R8 e-tron sports car, uses three electric motors, including one on the front axle and two on the rear axle.
The SUV also has a 95-kilowatt lithium-ion battery that is integrated into the floor of the passenger compartment, so that the vehicle has a balanced axle load distribution and a low center of gravity, the release added.
The concept vehicle is equipped with Audi Wireless Charging technology for contactless induction charging, and it uses a system for piloted parking that guides it to the proper position at the charging plate. In addition, a large solar roof provides electricity for the drive system battery on sunny days.
