PARIS — Audi officials have confirmed that despite pleas from hard-core enthusiasts, the 2009 Audi RS6 will not come to the United States, according to www.edmunds.com. According to Jeff Kuhlman, Audi’s chief communications officer, the “volume just doesn’t justify it.”

Audi only expects to build 8,000 RS6 sedans and wagons throughout its run. Certifying the RS6 for U.S. sales would likely increase its cost basis above and beyond the already unfavorable exchange rate. The RS6 starts at €105,550 in Germany.

The 572-horsepower super sedan made its official debut at the 2008 Moscow Auto Show. It features a 5.0L, twin-turbo V-10 and the company’s signature Quattro all-wheel drive. Audi claims it will accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds.

The Audi S6 is currently the most powerful mid-size sedan in the lineup. It features a 435-hp, 5.2L V10.
