WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Trucking Associations (ATA) approved a policy — contingent upon certain conditions — that endorses mandatory use of electronic on-board recorders (EOBR).
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Trucking Associations (ATA) approved a policy — contingent upon certain conditions — that endorses mandatory use of electronic on-board recorders (EOBR), according to the Web site https://www.overdriveonline.com/.
The ATA board of directors unanimously passed language backing EOBR use to comply with the hours-of-service rule, providing that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) uses a pilot program determining EOBR effectiveness and addresses issues to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the technology. FMCSA Administrator Annette Sandberg expects the agency will publish a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on EOBR in early 2006, according to www.etrucker.com. In 2004, the agency announced an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and has continued to review feedback on the issue and to analyze cost and benefits.
