TULSA, OK – The Metropolitan Tulsa Transit Authority has received a donation of two new paratransit vans, both powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), from energy firm Apache Corp.
TULSA, OK – The Metropolitan Tulsa Transit Authority has received a donation of two new paratransit vans, both powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), from energy firm Apache Corp.
The MV-1 vans, manufactured by the Vehicle Production Group, are the first factory-built and assembled vehicles that meet or exceed the vehicle guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Tulsa Transit plans to use the new wheelchair-accessible vans as part of its door-to-door Lift Program for disabled individuals.
In announcing its donation, Apache praised Tulsa Transit for its commitment to alternative fuels such as CNG. Based in Tulsa, Apache’s central region covers the Anadarko Basin of western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle.
“As part of this community, Apache is always ready to help out worthy programs such as Tulsa Transit’s Lift Program,” said Central Region Vice President Rob Johnston. “And as a strong supporter of compressed natural gas as an alternative fuel, the donation of the two CNG-powered vans was especially gratifying.”
Apache presented the CNG-powered vans at Tulsa Transit’s board meeting on Dec. 20. Tulsa Transit is a public trust formed by the city of Tulsa. In 2011, Tulsa Transit opened its own CNG fueling station and began the transition of its bus fleet to CNG.
