On August 12, Lincoln released the first teaser of the 2022 Navigator, and in the days since, more details have been announced.

The company says that Navigator is responsible for about 33% of the brand’s conquest clients. The new model will debut with new exterior design elements, new technology, and new themes and features, aimed at luxury clients.

Hands-Free Driving Assist

The new Navigator will be the first Lincoln vehicle to offer ActiveGlide, a hands-free driver-assist technology. An evolution of the brand's Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane Centering, and Speed Sign Recognition, blue light cues will appear on the digital cluster and head-up display to indicate when the system’s camera and radar are activated, enabling drivers to operate Navigator hands-free on prequalified sections of divided highways. Hands-Free Blue Zones include more than 130,000 miles of dedicated highways across North America in the Lincoln GPS mapping system. A driver-facing camera in the instrument cluster monitors eye gaze and head position to help ensure a driver’s eyes stay on the road.

“The confident, new look of Navigator and the introduction of advanced features such as Lincoln ActiveGlide are great examples of how we elevate our sanctuary experience and keep our vehicles fresh,” said Joy Falotico, president, Lincoln.

The Navigator SYNC 4 cloud connectivity system, features twice the computing power and the ability to wirelessly connect smartphones to integrate with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and SYNC AppLink apps.

New Themes

With the debut of the 2022 Navigator, Lincoln is also introducing two new Black Label themes to its portfolio: Central Park and Invitation.

Lincoln Black Labels offer benefits and special interiors that customers can personalize. The brand says that Lincoln Black Label saw a sales increase of 15% in the first half of 2021 – 8% of total SUV sales. On Navigator, Black Label sales improved 35% this year, representing more than 20% of all Navigators sold.

“Black Label continues to be a key differentiator and opportunity for growth for Lincoln, setting us apart and showcasing the best of the brand, our vehicles and services,” said Michael Sprague, North America director, Lincoln.

The new themes – Central Park and Invitation – join Navigator’s Chalet and Yacht Club.

Other Vehicle Features

The 2022 Navigator will also offer Lincoln Enhance, which delivers wireless software updates to install new features and conduct preventative maintenance to reduce repair trips and improve performance.

Amazon Alexa hands-free is built in, with capabilities delivered through SYNC 4 to provide the convenience of voice-initiated interactions, from playing music, getting directions, checking traffic, finding parking, paying for gas, and more.

On the exterior, the 2022 Navigator boasts an updated grille, new front end, adaptive pixel projector headlamps, and new 3D taillamps.

“Elevating a vehicle as successful as Navigator is no small feat, and our team accomplished this with pride – turning heads and pulling our clients into the sophisticated, sleek design both inside and out,” said Kemal Curic, design director, Lincoln. “Building on what we already know and further refining our strengths, we explored more ways for clients to enjoy the sanctuary of their vehicle, using it as a space for personal relaxation and wellness – from home, to work and to stationary moments.”
