Chevrolet's diesel-powered 2018 Equinox will retail for at least $31,435 when it arrives later this summer as a rare diesel compact SUV with few competitors, CarsDirect.com is reporting.
Recent order guides show the 2018 Equinox LT equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged diesel would offer customers an entry point for this engine. The LT grade is in the higher range above the L and LS and below the Premier trim.
An equivalent Equinox LT powered by the 2.0T gasoline engine would retail for $1,345 less than the diesel model, according to ordering guides quoted by CarsDirect.com. Not all diesel Equinox models are more expensive that the gasoline-powered models. Customers can order the Premier 2.0T for $600 more than the diesel.
The 2018 Equinox offers a pair of gasoline engines, including 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter engines that make 155 hp and 184 hp respectively.
The diesel Equinox will eventually be joined by diesel versions of the GMC Terrain, a sister platform, and the Mazda CX-5, which is expected to arrive by the end of the year.
